The Name
Imua means "go forward" in Hawaiian.
The Club
Imua Outrigger Canoe Club is an amateur, non-profit organization
that competes against other clubs throughout Southern California
in 6-man outrigger canoes ranging from 5-minute sprints to 5-hour/36-mile
competitions. Founded in 1970, Imua Outrigger Canoe Club is comprised
of adventure-minded adults of various ages who enjoy the competition
along with the sense of ohana and aloha achieved through the ancient
sport of Polynesian canoeing. We are dedicated to preserving and
promoting the environment, and give back to the community through
various local charities.
In the past five seasons, Imua has increased its level of competition
by consistently placing within the top three crews within various
divisions. In 2007, Imua dominated the Iron season and won the
Ironman Championship perpetual trophy for the third year in a row and
earned a total of 67 1st-3rd place medals for the entire racing
season.
New Member Information

Novices, are provided instruction, compete in shorter races and
encouraged to join at any time. Imua also welcomes paddlers from
other local clubs and those visiting the Newport Beach area.
